On Friday, June 22nd at 7 pm, White Columns will be holding its 2018 benefit auction at their new location (91 Horatio Street, NY) to support their organization and all the local upcoming artists they’re able to provide a platform for showcasing their work.
The night kicks off at 7 pm with some beverages and hors-d’oeuvres and will be followed by a live auction of various pieces right at 8 pm. In order to partake in the live auction, you’ll need to buy tickets ahead of time. The good news is that since White Columns is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, $100 of the ticket price ($150) can be written off as a tax-deductible charitable contribution. It’s going to be a great night full of lots of awesome artwork – in fact, over 100 artists donated pieces to be auctioned off!
With this auction going on, we’d like to take the time to highlight White Columns and all the awesome work they do for our community. Many people don’t realize it, but White Columns is actually the oldest alternative art space that still exists in NY today. White Columns was originally founded way back in 1970 by Jeffrey Lew and Gordon Matta-Clark in SoHo NY. Today, White Columns has a new home at 91 Horatio Street and is coming up on its 50th anniversary in 2020! White Columns has been an incredible support to artists who are up and coming that haven’t yet received much recognition for their work. They regularly hold galleries that are open to the public, free of charge, to help give these younger artists some love and provide great art to the NY community.
Now that you know a little bit more about White Columns, we’d like to talk about how you can get involved! As a nonprofit organization, White Columns relies heavily on support from individuals and organizations to continue to foster and support great upcoming artists. If you’re an active member of the art community, White Columns would love to have your support to make the coming years at White Columns as successful as the past 48!
1. Come to the auction!
What better way to support White Columns than coming to the benefit auction?! That way, you can get the opportunity to not only support the organization but get some awesome art to take home with you as well. At the very least, you’ll be able to write off $100 of your ticket price and enjoy a night mingling with other folks in the art industry with some quality food and drinks! Be sure to get your benefit auction tickets ahead of time!
2. Donate
Donations to White Columns are always welcome. There typically aren’t very many volunteer opportunities to help support White Columns, so making a donation is a good alternative. No matter if you donate one dollar, one hundred dollars, or one hundred thousand dollars – your contribution is still helping to support a worthy cause. That’s something you can be proud of!
3. Host a Fundraiser
While White Columns doesn’t have a lot of volunteer opportunities, that doesn’t mean you can’t create one of your own! To make an even bigger impact, you should consider hosting a fundraiser in the local community; it could be as simple as hosting a bottle and can drive, or you could have a little more fun with it and do a 5K run/walk or set up a small charity concert with a local venue. With all the technology available to help plan fundraiser events, it’s never been easier to put on an event and make a positive impact!
We’re proud to be able to work with White Columns and help support all of the young artists they work with – and we hope we’ve inspired you to do the same!
