The Armory Show

September 5 – 7, 2025

At the Javits Center

In its first fully realized edition under director Kyla McMillan, The Armory Show 2025 (VIP preview September 4; public September 5–7 at the Javits Center) radiates a renewed verve, energizing New York’s autumn art scene with more than 230 galleries from over 35 countries. There is a fresh architectural clarity to the fair—reimagined floor plans prioritize a dynamic flow between sections—most notably the debut of the Function segment, curated by Ebony L. Haynes, which provocatively reunites art and design through compelling cross-disciplinary works such as quilts by the Gee’s Bend makers. Meanwhile, the Focus section—under the curatorship of Jessica Bell Brown—takes on a spirited and nuanced exploration of the American South, featuring a vivid lineup from RF. Alvarez’s queer cowboy paintings to visceral revivals of Southern quilting traditions, and a major Platform presentation titled My Art Is the Evidence of My Freedom, curated by Souls Grown Deep, which foregrounds monumental works by Thornton Dial and other Black Southern artists. Dealers report brisk early sales—even from blue-chip standouts like White Cube, whose first New York fair return since the 1990s includes a solo TARWUK presentation—fueling what one exhibitor called a “back-to-school” spirit of optimism.
