Reds to Blues at PeepShow Space

Participating artists: Yukari Edamitsu, Etty Yaniv, Jiji Ryoo
The Covid 19 lockdown forced artists to recognize and process an ongoing separation from the world outside their studios. This led the three women artists featured in Reds to Blues to search and adapt new forms of working, while they also keep searching and reflecting on how it is possible to converge shifting perspectives – of inside and outside of time and space – in context of their abstracted landscape paintings.
The Japanese NYC based artist, Yukari Edamitsu, typically works in oil on canvas as she renders the emotional resonance of a remorseless celestial landscape. In this new work she paints with fresh urgency and larger scale. While exploring the violent clash of the moment with the enhanced strictures of current life, she has exploded and expanded her canvases into multi-paneled complexities.
The Israeli born NYC based artist, Etty Yaniv, typically works with repurposed materials to form large scale installation. She has faced her new restrictions by choosing to create one small landscape each day, capturing her changing sense of time as windows onto an exterior place, or a portal into an interior space. The fluidity of time in this new reality, creates a cataclysmic outpouring which fluctuates from day to day.
The South Korean Jiji Ryoo has coolly focused her eyes inward, pouring blue resins in subtle whispered layers, repeating and dancing along with the edges of her panels, which resemble an intimate look at the heart of a slowly revealing glacier.
