New York Anchors and International Voices Dominate Armory Show’s Expansive 2025 Roster, NYC

This fall, the Armory Show returns to the Javits Center with more than 230 galleries from around the world, reaffirming its place as one of New York City’s major art-world tentpoles. Its 2025 edition marks a confident new chapter, balancing international expansion with a commitment to the city’s rich gallery ecosystem. Familiar New York fixtures like Sean Kelly, Kasmin, James Cohan, and Michael Rosenfeld hold court alongside global spaces including Victoria Miro, Nature Morte, and Tehran-based Dastan.

Organized into five distinct sections—Galleries, Solo, Focus, Presents, and Platform—the fair continues to offer an architecture that rewards both collectors and curators. From large-scale installations to first-time solo showcases, the format encourages a deeper engagement with the artworks on view, defying the one-note commercialism that often dogs such fairs. If the show’s scale remains intimidating, its structure has matured into something that encourages discovery rather than fatigue.

The roster features over 75 New York–based exhibitors, a reflection of the fair’s embeddedness in the city’s artistic lifeblood. But the international pull is undeniable. From Tokyo to Cape Town, the 2025 edition reads like a global map of contemporary thought, with galleries presenting bold programming that resists formula. It’s a fair that understands regional nuance without diluting it for broader appeal.

Sections like Focus, Solo, and Presents continue to evolve as platforms for risk. Focus, in particular, has become a bellwether for curatorial rigor within the fair format, while Presents offers space for younger galleries—under ten years old—to introduce work that hasn’t yet been subsumed into blue-chip cycles. These areas often serve as pressure points, where artistic and political urgency can still be felt.

There is, perhaps, a sense of reclamation pulsing beneath the surface. After years of pandemic uncertainty, leadership turnover, and shifting market behaviors, the 2025 edition feels like a declaration: the fair is not merely back, but re-anchored. The choreography of returning heavyweights and first-time exhibitors suggests a calculated and convincing repositioning. This is no longer a fair looking to recover; it’s one that’s actively reimagining its identity.

Beyond the booths, the fair’s programming continues to unfold across the city during Armory Week, merging public installations, talks, and performances into a wider cultural moment. It’s here that the fair transcends its commercial core, taking on the texture of a citywide festival. That sense of porosity—between dealer and artist, between art and audience—is what allows the Armory Show, at its best, to feel less like a trade event and more like a pulse-check on contemporary art.
