FRANCIS MARSHALL’s maverick studio in La Frette-sur-Seine, (France) is an open-air theatre of sculpture, populated by a cast of charming and peculiar folk. The characters of his creative wasteland are the everyday workers, the eccentric, the bored and the curious. On first inspection these bodies slumped on ramshackle wooden chairs and shoved into on crates may appear grotesque and dispirited but their faces wear expressions of content and amusement, encapsulating the charm and humour of quotidian life.

MARSHALL’s beautiful people have been exposed to time and the elements. The artist leaves his creations for up to decades to weather outside. The result of their ageing process is a patina of dirt and bleaching of sun. Like hardened workers each figure evidences the eccentric personalities that unravel with age and experience. Now MARSHALL’s cast of outsiders are housed in a gallery for the first time after years of tough raging.

The Gallery of Everything invites you to sit amongst MARSHALL’s characters, to wait for the bus, to drink soup and to ride discarded bicycles.
