• Alternate Equation: Guang Zhu in Motion

    Music note (919), 25 x 30 (h x w) inches, 2014. Woodblock Print.

Think you know art. I bet you have seen nothing. While you must have seen the culmination of art over the centuries through paint brushes and explicit display of aesthetical panache. Sigh, sit back and transcend the relief- as you are about to step in the futuristic dimension of Guang Zhu.

She is nothing of the sort that you have seen or known. I mean you must have encountered some artists that dissect between mathematics and art but Guang is a league in her own. She has received several art scholarships and her works are regularly exhibited in China and the US. And when you view her works with the naked eye, you will rightfully know the reason behind the hype and momentum her work is gathering.

    5 you and (data), 17.5 x 17.5 (h x w) inches, 2013. Woodblock Print.

Don’t worry she is from the same planet, though her art is spectacularly from another dimension. Technical drawings of geometrical representation with full respect and discipline for ratio in expression. It’s like “Metallica’s One”- unpredictably out of the box, yet in refined boundaries of time and space. Her work is as captivating in still as it is in motion- quite a feat to be achieved by any artist of any medium. Every frame has attention to detail and therefore retains the charm, be it moving or just a static frame. It certainly moved me in both the cases.

Her fascination with science and mathematics is quite obvious from the first glance. Her wired representations is modeled from a 3D sculpture with precise rigging, as she scatters her dots like needles in a voodoo doll. Some of her works look like a simulation of something grand- as you find in “Moon Like”. Reminds me of pen sketches of lovers in 80’s romantic novels.

Her “Music Note” is a life-like representation of musical notation as they resonate through our vibes when an instrumentalist strikes a note or chooses a chord. Her rotational grip over the subjected and diagrammatic liberty really filters through the statement she is making and the appeal that impacts as a consequence.

5you& (Converted) from guang zhu on Vimeo.

“5You&” will spill your guess work because it is like alpha wave that pours a soulful sleep through the late hours. The wavelength and frequency of the animated piece lures the viewer to stare at it continuously- as one feels lost in its deep blue backdrop. The spherical perspective rotates with symbolic figures justifying the quest of the artist, to equate with direction as steady as a compass.

Guang is creating a ripple- literally speaking through this anonymous art form. It is a faculty of figurative/numerical research entwined in some sort of Da Vinci Code that scripts the balance and equates with the comprehensions. Future is constantly reinvented with the help of visual expressionists like Guang Zhu.

A well rehearsed essence of Chinese accuracy with American audacity.
