It’s time to diffuse one into another. It’s a call for infusing a technique or two with a touch of reality. It’s a dialogue of multitudes – as one picture partially overlaps another to emerge with a wandering expression. Welcome to the show – One or The Other at The Highline Loft by artists Jared Flaming and Eric Helvie, and curated by Anne Huntington and Natalie Kates; is a treat divine. So stay on the edge as we reveal their secret chemistry.
At a glimpse, you will see a fantasy of colors. In a blink, you will find yourself in the nostalgia of black and white era. Jared and Eric are out and about, to leave a signature expression that will spring a wave of photorealistic tremors in the art trend. They are audacious, well defined and vulnerable to invite your reflex. And, certainly well matched by curators to showcase their works collaterally.
Beautifully captured and brilliantly realized with colorful and black/white combinations with vector and illustrative art. Something that you won’t find being challenged every now and then. With Jared you will find montages of expressions. While with Eric, you will find collages of impressions relating his geometrical escapades on vertical “World War Battle Ships.” One is screaming for the trend of pop art while other is rolling down a walk in past with complementing imagery splashed in two tones.
Between vector and illustrations, you will sense the transiting paradigms. Transgressing dimensions that defy both your vision as well as imaginations – while challenging both your hindsight as well as taste. Taking liberty with pictures never felt so novel. This photo-realism is taking a step ahead in the shadow of art. Diffusing the reality parameters between photography and fine art never presented such sweet harmony.
Jared’s “Dangerous Meeting” is my favorite. It is more than merely playing upon words. In terms of artistic technique, it is actually playing upon layers. It has motive to classify the interlude and prelude of erotic theme, drawing your attention while distracting you evenly. Your eyes and imagination will track all over the artwork, as you digress within the façade of lust, highlights, abstraction and indulgence.
For me, it is all out of the blue. A surprise in a disguise – something everyone would like to fathom in its unique setting drawn by its curators and unique hosts. Off beat and off the wall. I would invite anyone – who likes the alternate, One or the Other.
