Metalpoint Now! at Garvey Simon Art Access in Chelsea contains a refreshingly simplistic, and visually appealing collection of work created through the media of metalpoint, a Renaissance era art technique of drawing which involves dragging different shaped metal tools across a prepared surface.  The show is inspired by the current metalpoint survey on display at the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC.  Metalpoint Now! features the works of eight different artists, as well as one duo collaboration, and includes the organically inspired work of Susan Shwalb, the only woman artist featured at the National Gallery metalpoint show.  Whether you’re a lover of antiquated art techniques or an enthusiast of the NYC art movement, Metalpoint Now! is an exceptional show offering a contemporary spin on traditional art approaches.
