Our heartiest congratulations to this unique art space and creative hub in the gritty bosom of the Lower East Side – to its founders, fashion designer Claire Fleury and artist/photographer Alesia Exum. Together they created this special venue and one of my favorites to review. Last year, their show ANTHEM: A Song of Celebration in June 2012 was my best in show and we featured Samantha Box earlier this year. Touch points of their two years on the gallery row of Orchard Street has been working with their various talented artists and staging unique environments for every cycle. AF came to the festivities last December 19th and as always the interior was vivid with art interlaced with avant-garde fashion, populated by the most interesting art personalities and most of all, the generous congenial vibe of both Claire and Alesia.
Here are the roster of artists they’ve featured at Strange Loop and the variety of talent that has crossed their jewel box of a threshold:
Timothy Atticus, Sarah White-Ayón, Katie Koti, Alice O’Malley, Ace Morgan, Miriam Castillo, Goodyn Green, Kim Meijer, Tunji Dada, Louda Larrain, Miguel Gesso, Violet Forest, Terttu Uibopuu, Ikuyo Fujita, Evo Love, Jamie Sneider, Sara Jimenez, Gerry Visco, Ryan Burke, Domonique Echeverria, John O, Sarah Berney, Purevile, Diana Joy, Martin Keehn, Martyn Thompson, Shane Shane, Brett Lindell, Joseph Heidecker, Samantha Box, Jordan Fox, Krys Fox, Jake Dibeler, Reve Douglas, Ben Rosenberg, Stephen Boyer, Dusty Shoulders, Hari Nef, Alberto Cortes, Max Steele, Trey LaTrash, Leo Gugu, M Reginald Lamar, BGSQD, Gail Thacker, Suzanne Goldenberg, Deli Grocery, Brett Bailey, Bcalla, Chris Riffle, Tatiana Godoy, Cupid Ojala, Angela Marzullo, Drashko, Katrina del Mar, Tatlo, and Pop Psychic.
To push the art envelope to the nth fabulousness – a burlesque performance by Domonique Echeverria delighted all in attendance. We hope the soul and continued presence of this space shine on for decades and eons.
