Two for the visit of one. AF walked into the massive interior of PACE Gallery on Chelsea’s West 25th Street to get a double treat. 508 had Recent Paintings by iconic minimalist Robert Ryman while 510 featured the work of legendary photographer Irving Penn – On Assignment.  For a gallery housed in the same roof with dual shows, it is amusing that the mood was different with each gallery space. Ryman instilled a placid and more reverent demeanor. Penn got an excited rush of fans ogling at the fashion images from vintage Vogue magazines and the haute couture of it all. But the grace of two in one came in handy later on as the sudden thunderstorm and rain deluge provided a safe haven for the water soaked masses. Austere or fabulous – it is all good in the art neighborhood!
