Here at AF we write and discuss about what is fashionable on the walls and what medium is trending every season. The same goes for the Fashion Industry and since it is Fashion Week, AF decided that maybe it’s time to infiltrate the wearable art brigade and experience the blast off celebration for art that you put on your back.

Fashion and Art are about aesthetics. They are necessary for its devotees to make their life less mundane and more special. Its how you look at something and how you look wearing something. Both are obsessed with the new and what is next. They’re twins yet there is a vast divide in the eye of the beholder.

Last September 5th, AF and its art entourage snagged an invite to attend the fashion show of Allison Parris Spring Summer 2014 Collection at the Dream Downtown’s penthouse. Before we go any further, AF can easily write about new silhouettes, the color of the season, hemline length, textures on fabric, and other fashion related items, that could help to make boho womens clothing and other types of women’s clothing but I decided to leave that to the professionals. So get your juice on clothes from WWD, Vogue, and the fashion trade publications.

What will be discussed here is the passion for fashion. The same force that drives us in the art world to follow, observe and laud the rock stars that shoot up in the stratosphere is proportional in its intensity to the fashion set. They gather in tribes and speak a lexicon of terms that is undecipherable if you are not on the inside. It exudes and projects a belief that a certain cut, color, sleeve length or accessory is the only thing that matters every change of season. It is as abstract and ludicrous as the structure in the art machine. Acrylic is something that you paint on fingernails for the fashionista but it comes in a tube to be painted on a canvas with the art set. Passion is what greases the wheels to turn.

But getting back to the perfect night to launch fashion week. Well it is just as I had imagined it. The night was perfect with a view of the skyline from the terrace of the swanky venue, the frenetic energy of the guests grooved on by a DJ, conversations buzzed, and the contact high was perfumed by the glamorous veneer of the event. But there is no denying the passion of what this world means to anyone who worships style. How appropriate that it was held in a hotel named DREAM. Yes, fashion and art is about dreams made into a reality of lofty or rather abstract ideals. If we don’t aim higher or aspire to reach for the stars then how do we expect to shine? So shine on baby and let it burn with passion.
