Handcrafted to be viewed and adored seemed to be the order of the show as AF came to the opening of Folklore last July 11th at Joshua Liner Gallery. With a touch of Folk Art but blowing it out of the water from the previous impression of the genre. It retains the spirit but has been rebooted to Contemporary Folk. Think of it as Grandma Moses wearing a Schott leather motorcycle jacket over her housedress revving up on a Harley – Davidson. Evan Hecox curated the show and one of the artists as well with a diverse coterie from the United States, England and France. (Andrew Paynter, Andy Jenkins, Benjamin DeBerdt, Cody Hudson, Ed Templeton, Evan Hecox, Geoff McFetridge, Jay Nelson, Nathaniel Russell, Nigel Peake, Peter Sutherland, Serena Mitnik-Miller, Stephen Powers, Stevie Gee, and Thomas Campbell) AF photo editor on the prowl, Max Noy, captured the “folks” attending to view the art that night. And that’s just one piece of the scrumptious pie of the art life in New York, fine folks!
