    Bio:

Chris Morring is a photographer that believes you have to know the rules before you can break them. He received a traditional education in photography from San Francisco State University while exploring new ways to use his chosen medium. Morring has investigated the dawn of his craft and considers photography’s history as he shapes its future. Experimentation is an important part of Morring’s method and much of it is done in the controlled environment of the studio. Under these conditions the artist can pinpoint what aspects of the photographic process he wants to manipulate.

    Statement for “The Fall”:
The camera is touted as a means of preserving our past. Games transport us into a fictional world which draws from the history of humankind, yet retells this history in new ways. Rather than use the camera to “preserve the past,” these images transport the viewer into an alternate universe. Using materials which are utilized to create terrain for tabletop miniature wargames and scale model dioramas, I strive to create a world that makes the viewer contemplate a myriad of questions. Some of these questions may be mundane, others are more complex: Are we doomed to repeat our history? Is this the dawn of war? Is this the sunset of victory? The answers to the questions are for the viewer to decide. The worlds presented are just glimpses into the sublime realities. Through what could be called a “game” I have created for myself, I arrange these pieces to create these environments.
