CHURNER and CHURNER had an opening for the woodcuts, collages and paintings of Nils Karsten for his show “Suburbia Hamburg 1983”. The works evoked a punk and postpunk vibe that reverberated on the works displayed that night. You can feel the social and political upheavals that impact the formative teenage years of the artist when he lived in its suburbs in Hamburg. Such vivid historical recollections and impressions leave a potent mark to produce works later on – as we witnessed now in Chelsea NYC 2012. This last show of the year for this innovative gallery culminates a banner year and a great AF experience for all the mode of art that we have covered in their space. This merits a photo scene picture feature – which is the first for the gallery and definitely not their last. Jamie Martinez came equipped with camera to capture the brevity rather than angst of a punk inspired art show. A great riotous way to end the year!
