Picture This: 100 Years and Pop Goes the Armory
Piers 92 and 94 on the West Side glared its white light and cube aesthetic to “pop” the bubbly in celebrating a century of the Armory Show. Eric Shiner of the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, PA curated this year’s edition with focus on the POP art movement. You can tell the crowd coming from Armory with their Brillo Pad boxes in tow. International and domestic galleries brought their blue chip property for the entire art world audience to see. If Lincoln Center is the Mecca for Fashion Week then these Hudson River Piers was the hub for Armory Art Week. As always, the rock stars of the art world are ever sparkling and beckoning the beholder to get lost in its luster. AF lens auteur and eye to art glam, Max Noy, took some choice shots of what was in the Armory. This year the lights twinkled more and giving the super slick art fair a more competitive verve in providing more interesting installations as a means to keep up with the smaller satellite fairs taking the risks of more provocative and of the moment relevant art. The fair has come a long way since 1913 and will continue to be a bastion of being the Valhalla of modern/contemporary art. Here’s to more ammunition from Armory in the future shows!
