Check out the opening for Milavec Hakimi Gallery Hello World! held at 41 Cooper Square, NYC September 15th
Milavec Hakimi Gallery, founded by Nikki Milavec and Karen Hakimi intends to promote both emerging and mid-career contemporary art of all mediums that are exceptional in a sea of complacency. This innovative contemporary art gallery, located on the ground floor of the newly constructed 41 Cooper Square is located at the center of a crossroads of cultures and viewpoints in the heart of Manhattan Island. Nikki and Karen encourage the public to regard the gallery as a public creative center, eager to interact with the public so that people may cultivate the same passion, and understanding that they themselves share for the arts, because they strongly believe that art should inspire and impact us all.
They are proud to be sharing their walls with The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, a higher learning institution that encourages independent thinkers to pursue their ideas in the fine arts, engineering and architecture, all while creating a education experience of the highest standards.
Milavec Hakimi Gallery is delighted to present a selection of original works by artists who challenge conceptual and visual modes of contemporary representation: Gigi Chen, Peter D. Gerakaris, Norman Mooney, Gordon Stevenson, Fernando Orellana, Rafael Vargas-Suarez, and Ira Upin. The works are highly technical, utilizing complex materials and compositional structures to produce sophisticated chromatic schemes and draw the viewer in deeper to the works messages. Although each of the works are exceptionally individualistic, these artists are in continual flux, creating new works that are wonderingly fresh. Strong pigments and patterns, which often express the greatest of emotions, also play a significant role in all of the works. Each artist practices a dynamic use of materials and vision to present the viewer with unique insight.
Hello World! is an introduction to a selection of artists who they so strongly believe in and support. Milavec Hakimi Gallery welcomes you to their permanent location at The Cooper Union New Academic Building at 41 Cooper Square with this inaugural exhibit. Fernando Orellana’s artist statement
Dying and birthing for generations upon generation, always arriving at a question, we hurtle through space and time, helplessly out of control. Approaching the future at an ever-increasing pace and plugged into one another ingenuously, we perpetually dismantle and assemble each other. Along the way encountering irregular moments of nirvana, keeping us interested and entertained.
It is through this prism that my recent artwork is born. Taking on varying forms and mediums, the visions that have surfaced of late lean towards conversations about the nature of reality, our place on the mortal coil, the relationship and communications we share with one another, and what may lie beyond the shackles of the living. Like the prisoners of Socrates’ cave, what dreams may come as we reawaken from the shadows into the blinding light?
I really enjoyed Fernando’s work and it was the highlight of the night. Here is his website if you want to check out more of his work.
